The Oakland Ballers Are Saving Baseball

A start-up minor league team is revitalizing a deadened sports scene in the East Bay's capital city

I recently met up with Bay Area illustrator Jason Novak, who has contributed to The Atlantic and The New Yorker, at an Oakland Ballers game at Raimondi Park in West Oakland. We enjoyed the late afternoon with our families and took notes about the energy of Oakland’s newest sports team. I wrote the script, and he drew it all out. Here are some snippets.
